Hi everyone,
Latty has posted on this forum with a similar problem, but I think my problem is a bit different.
12v/gas/ electric fridge, works well on 12volt, and mains electric, But it is a pig to light and run on gas.
SO! decided yesterday to remove the fellow.
On pulling it out and loosening the insulation and burner cover...tried it...hey presto! lit straight away.
Pressed on and removed the burner and jet and cleaned the burner with a little dremel brush, blew everything out using compressed air, and cleaned the piezzo spark thingy and the coupling,
|Reassmbled, pressed the button and she lit first time. burning with a lovely steady blue flame....all good!
left it for an hour or so, came back tried it and lit no problem.
Replaced the fridge, But no amount of clicking etc would persuade it to light....fridge out again, tried it and no problem, lit easyily! replaced the fridge again, tried it... nothing ZILCH! has anybody got any thoughts or solution please.

Kink in the gas pipe?
Does the piezzo igniter spark with it in. If so it must be a gas problem

Hi nawer, all seems to be working when i remove the fridge and have the burner exposed and in full view.
kink in the pipe, i dont think so because when lit it will run until the gas runs out.
The piezzo works everytime, Except there is a little bit of the pot insulation arounnd the end of the electrode???
But it still produces a strong spark.
putting the fridge back in, it seems asif there is no gas to ignite?
got me beat!

Had the same problem. In my case I think there is not enough natural airflow around the burner for correct air/gas ratio for ignition. I have the cardboard air heating distribution pipe running through the rear of the fridge compartment, very close to the burner assembly, blocking the free flow of air to the burner.
I cut a small 3/8" plastic elbow in to the ducting close to the burner and when I want to light the fridge from cold, I turn on the heater air distribution with all the other vents closed. This creates a small airflow in the vicinity of the burner and improves the chanced=s od ignition.
The other method of ignition is to light the gas immediately on arrival at site. The 12V has been powering the fridge during transit. Thus there is still hot air rushing up the flue which again draws in sufficient air to ignite the gas. Works every time :)

interesting crypto!
I intend to remove the fridge tomorrow and I will have a good look at the points you have raised.
I would really like to crack this problem, (A) so's I can use the fridge on gas, and (B) because I hate this sort of thing to beat me...Lol!
on our last expedition I remember the thing was difficult to light, but when it got going it stayed lit for approx a week, then the gas bottle emptied, I replaced the bottle, but the thing refused to light.

Crypto, on removing the fridge the first thing I noticed was that the round insulation around the burner flu had slipped right down which may have contributed to what you said about air to gas ratio being compremised.
Pressed the gas on /and igniter..hey presto lit after a few big pops.
NOW here's the revelation, a guy called lakenham rod, wrote on CARAVAN TALK, " my fridge will not light on the highest setting, I use one of the lower settings"...brill!
Went out and tried it on first two settings and loads of big pops before it lit...turned down to anothe lower setting and it lit with a gentle pop....
all good me thinks!
I'll leave the fridge out today and keep on trying it, then hope it works when refitted. I'll keep you posted!
