Hi all!

I am new to this site and would like to say hello to everyone first!

I am having a big drama with my first ever caravan and I am hoping you guys will be able to help. On our first trip, after about 3 miles the left wheel felt off probably damaging the threads (well it did on the studs) and I am desperate to have it repaired as we just spent 5 months on complete restoration of the interiors. The center cap is lost and the drum is sheered I am now looking for a spare left hub for 1979 ABI Supreme/Monza. Any chance I could get that hub and get that babe rolling?
I've been told it is a B&B chassis and I can't get the spares for it. Could you guys tell me is there anything I can do to get it fxed? Are these hubs not interchangable? Or can I replace the axle? Do I have any options at all?

I called arround caravan brakers and none of them carry these spares...

Not much help - but have you tried ringing your local caravan dealers and/or service engineers? While they might not be able to source the hub, they might be able to throw ideas into the mix as to how you could replace it with another. Or offer advice about replacing the axle. I think they might simply say it's not an economic job and suggest you scrap it

What has actually sheared? Got a picture?

Replacing the axle is quite a big job, getting one the right size and then making the brakes work maybe a pain.
Not impossible but a pain when you find the brackets wont allow your brake cables to reach.

A picture and your rough location may help get netter answers. You can upload 3 pictures to your gallery or use something like tinypic to upload your pictures.

Hi,
pictures attached.
I've asked at local caravan repair place and they just said that I can't get hold of spare parts and that these chassis were used also for horseboxes.

I am Milton Keynes, Bucks.
I might do a round trip to local garages as per suggestion. thanks!

Back off the brakes on the rear to give clearance and then remove the center nut, Probably a split pin to remove first.

The right hand side (drivers side) maybe a left hand thread.

After removing the centre pin, nut and any washers tap the hub away from the van whilst rotating it. Normally you would use a soft hammer/mallet but its damaged anyway you may as well just whack it off.

Do not use a lever between the drum and backplate though.

is it the stub axle that is goosed or is it the bearing that runs inside the drum, if it is the latter then get a garage to press out the inner races, measure them and you should be able to get a bearing the same size

if it is the stub axle that is the problem then you might be able to clean up the bearing surface (unless it is scored useless) and put a die down the threads. For a brake drum to be totally goosed takes a lot

I'm not sure if you have got this issue sorted yet or not. I have an ABI Supreme that I've been trying to sell complete but am likely to be giving to a friend for his ducks. They don't need wheels or hubs!

If I can't sell it, I'll update but it could be another month anyway before it goes to my mate's farm.

Thanks Grampian91 -
I will give it a go and try to remove it this Sunday and let you know how it went. Hopefuly I will have tools for that job.

FirstClassMale-
I am up for the wheels with hubs. Drop me a line if this will available to grab. I am willing to compensate for them :)

Alan126 -
it is the outside drum and the threads for the studs that holds the wheel on.

Although now that I am looking at the diagrams it might or should be the hub itselfs that holds it on.

Yeah, just do what i said above, whack it off. Do back the brakes off first though and make sure its jacked up safely. Not using the corner steadies i hope..

Handbrake needs to be off to remove it. Rotate 1/4 turn use a hammer to tap it towards yourself, then rotate another 1/4 and tap tap, repeat until it falls in your lap or worse

I recently recommended this place to a member to get a replacement window.

If you need a replacement hub ,

They are a huge caravan breaker and worth making note of for the future.
They do mail order.
You don't give your location but if you are close to Blaenavon ,South Wales I always like to go personally ,but as I say they do mail order
I have tried putting their website on here ,for some reason after trying it it didn't work, it's probably my computer skills.
Go to Google, Caravan Centre Blaenavon.
It's one of those places I like to walk around anyway.Although I have a M/home it is still a great place .
What a shame on your first trip but hopefully no one was hurt.
Good luck for the future.
