Hello,
Just been in my 1990 Cotswold Windrush to get it ready for my next trip and it seems that the ignitor for using my Electrolux fridge with gas doesn't work any more.
I would be most grateful if anyone out there could help me repair it, if this is possible. The first problem is how to remove the fridge, as I can't find out how to do this.
Any help/ advice most welcome. Mark.
How do you know that the ignitor is faulty? If it simply doesn't light it could be a blocked gas jet.
However, this is how I remove my Dometic RM4230.
From outside, remove the two ventilation grills, usually a quarter turn catch on the left hand side.
Remove the flue through the right hand side of the top vent.
Inside, pull off the two knobs (gas and electric). Remove the fridge facia plate, usually two pozidrive screws.
Inside the fridge their are two blanking caps about 20mm dia on each side of the fridge about 30mm in from the front edge.
Prise out the blanking caps, I use a penknife, and you will find there is a cross head screw inside each of the four locations. Unscrew and remove the screws ( I use a magnetic screw driver)
It is now possible to partially pull the fridge out with a rocking motion until the 230Vac and 12Vdc connections are exposed on the top left hand side. Once electrics are iso;ated, remove the wires. On the right hand top side is the gas connection. Again, once the gas is isolated undo the gas connection.
The fridge should now pull out fully and can be carefully manouvered out of the caravan for service. I have a thin sheet of ply which I pull the fridge on to and it then slides on the carpet to the door.
All the usual warnings about competency to work with gas and 230Vac elctrics etc etc.
There is a You Tube video on fridge removal `but it is different to mine but still might be worth a look.
Hi,
Thank you for your reply. My fridge doesn't have any screws on the inside. BUT....problem sorted. It turns out that one of the wires from the ignitor switch had corroded a few inches from the switch where it joins what I assume is the ignitor. My neighbour who is good at these things tracked the problem down and fixed it by removing the sink to gain access. Mark.
