Hi folks. We have made it out to the first trip in the van. Some issues have arisen. Firstly the whale pump keeps on buzzing after the taps are turned off. Is this normal? I can get plenty of flow but thought it should switch it's self off.
Secondly I seem to have an brakefluid or similar oil leak at the hitch. What could this be?
The leak at the hitch will just be excess grease being squeezed out of the draw tube. Nothing to worry about, too much grease is better than too little.
The leak maybe the grease as above or it maybe the oil from the hitch damper.
Does it have an inbuilt stabiliser? No grease on the ball or in the socket with that. But the hitch will have several grease points where you attach a grease gun.
Hi there is no stabiliser on the caravan that I can see of. This oil is very thin and is dripping from the bottom of the hitch. If it's the hitch dampener will this affect the brakes? Also will it require a new one?
Another issue is that the water heater seems faulty. It's a cascade2 with a simple on of switch. I switched it on the green light comes on then a few seconds later a red light. But no hot water. Any ideas?
If its the fluid from the hitch damper then damper has failed & will need replacing. If damper has failed then you will notice the caravan bangs against hitch under medium/heavy braking. It won't affect braking power if brakes are otherwise ok but it will be annoying in traffic & should be fixed asap.
New dampers are around £70 & about an hour or so labour to replace. If you are ok with spanners it's reasonably easy diy.
Hitch dampers are specific to type of coupling head on your caravan. Trailer chassis parts suppliers will stock them. Most caravans have Al-ko chassis & some have BPW make. This place is a useful parts supplier.
