Help! I have a 2010 Bailey Pegasus 534 and the lower hinge plastic bracket broke. The service centre said that it was unrepairable and that i would need a new fridge at over £700 plus fitting etc. This seems crazy!
I continued to use the fridge on holiday for 3 weeks and now both the pin holes in the door at top and bottom are grossly enlarged.
It seem to me that I could remove the fridge and fabricate metal hinge pin brackets and pin locators for a few pounds rather than fork out a ridiculous amount of money because of an obvious design fault.
Can anyone tell me how to remove the fridge please?
The fridge can't be replaced actually as it's wider than the doorway and if you check the size you will find this is right. When a caravan is constructed they fit the all the cupboards, fridge, cooker and toilet etc. to the walls then tip the wall upright then fix it to the timber floor.
The way to remove the fridge for repair is if you open the fridge door there are 4 x plastic caps (2 on the left and 2 on the right) which have to be unscrewed and then the fridge should be free to move forward. However, there is a gas connection at the rear so you may have to remove one of the fridge vents to gain access to the nut.
It would seem strange that you can buy replacement caravan fridges but you can't actually change them out.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Many thanks Tango55 and Andy9-5.
Removal of the fridge from the caravan may not be a problem as I can work on it inside the van.
As for removal entirely, I wonder if it would go through the front window? Must check dimensions.
BTW if you are wondering, its my wife who registered for me as I was busy cursing Dometic at the time!

It could well possibly go through the front window but without measuring it it's anyone's guess. However, the information I got was from someone who who bought a brand new caravan about 4 years ago and had an ongoing problem with the Dometic fridge to which the dealer had the caravan back and undertook a repair but it wasn't solved. When I asked about having a new fridge installed under the warranty the answer was that a caravan fridge is too big to go through the door and that's why they can't replace it. Finally, an engineer on behalf of the dealer had to attend their home address to undertake a second repair which I believe resulted in success.
Just a wild thought to consider and probably discard. Can you make a hinge bracket that will fit to the floor rather than to the fridge. This would save you having to remove the fridge.
i have a Bailey Senator, and my fridge has went the same only the top hinge, not exactly hinge, but where the hinge pin fits in. i am in the process of taking the door off, and repairing it myself, yet to decide what i will use till i get it off. its easy enough taking the door off, and i am not paying extortinate prices to fix it, as you cannot see it, and when i fix it will hopefully still be working if i ever sell it
