Hi folks, I'm hoping somebody will be able to help me, I'm new to this site. I have a compass rallye 4.9l year 98. I'm not getting hot water to the taps. I've hooked up the pump and cold water works, but I'm getting nothing from the hot water taps at all.
It doesn't seem like the tank is filling up. I opened the drain valve and and very little water came out. It was tho drained before winter. I the turned on the pump and let the water flow through. There was very little pressure. I read on this site that the water should come out about a foot when the drain cap is off. Is this problem the non return valve? I have ordered one anyhow.
Is it a big job to fit a non return valve?
Thanks in advance.

Rather than explain in detail about changing the non return valve, have a look at this recent thread as my post explains what is involved.

Thanks so much for your help, I still am unsure whether it's the cold or hot water return valve I need to replace? Also how do I disconnect the pipes from the valve? I'm not in anyway a plumber but I'll chance it!!

The cold water non-return valve is directly behind the cold water inlet housing which is incorporated in the housing therefore not replaceable so you have to replace the complete housing. However, your cold water supply is satisfactory so you can rule that that one out and focus on a defective hot water non-return valve which is possibly the reason for having no water at all at the hot water supply to the taps. The valve opens under pressure and then closes and seals the cold water supply into the hot water tank which takes time to replenish which is why the pump light may take a little longer to extinguish in comparison to the cold but after time, the valve doesn't function properly which is either jammed closed or open either way. If it's jammed open then the water system won't re-pressurise or takes much longer than normal and if it's jammed closed then no water can enter the tank thus the result in no water coming through any of the hot water taps. This is why I think that the hot water non-return valve is not functioning correctly and needs replacing as it's a common problem on the Carver Cascade tank.
Regarding the plumbing it depends whether the fittings are the older red plastic pipe (hot water) with jubilee clip connections or the later push on fittings as they are connected differently.

If it's the push on fittings the pipe will be striped (red and clear for hot, blue and clear for cold) but rather than explain how it connects and disconnects it's much easier to watch this short video as it explains in depth what you need to know to do the job. No need to watch part 1 as it's related to the old flexible hose connections.

Your'e welcome but if you are going to attempt to remove the hot water non-return valve then you will need either a 20mm. combination spanner or a DEEP 20mm. socket to tighten the new one up. It's also advisable to use PTFE tape wrapped around the thread to ensure it seals as heat expands so could leak but I also applied a smear of 'Boss White' pipe sealer which can be used on sealing pipes up to 6 inches diameter. When the old non-return valve is removed you need to clean out the thread with a second tap (not a plug tap) but you won't be able to use a tap wrench as there in no room against the side of the tank. If you don't clear the thread out then it will just chew up the new thread on the return valve because the hole is cast steel and the non return valve is made of plastic.
Good luck anyway and hope the information has been helpful. However, as a word of friendly advice, it's only an easy job if you know what you are doing and have the right tools otherwise it will be a call out from a service engineer to complete the job.
