Hello all, I've recently purchased a 2000 caravan which is in very good order for its age, the upholstery is in a good condition wear and tear wise but a little dirty as you'd expect.
I use autoglym interior cleaner in my car but I'm not sure if that's the best course of action with the vans upholstery? I was looking at hiring a "rug doctor" but again I'm not sure if it's worth the £45 hire and then pay for the cleaner on top. Can anyone suggest a good cleaner or technique for good results. Thanks folks.
The car upholstry shampoo aerosols work well, although you would need more than one can to do the entire van. We always cary some incase of any spills, and its good for cleaning the carpets too.
Whatever you do, avoild over wetting the fabric, the last thing you want is a degree of residue dampness that could turn into mildew and mould growth.

When we first had our caravan we also wanted to clean the upholstery and what we used was 1001 carpet and upholstery cleaner for under 2 quid which worked well and left a lovely fragrance afterwards too.
The Turtle Wax aerosol cleaner sold by B & Q that has a fixed yellow plastic brush arrangement around the nozzle is excellent.
Also leaves a nice clean fresh smell.
Obviously try it on an area that doesn't show first just in case of any problems that might arise.
Failing that, Tango's suggestion is a good one also.

we hired a carpet cleaner and used the upholstery bit on the seat cushions, choose a good drying day of sunny but a bit of wind, and amazed at how much dirt came out of the van, we thought the seating was meant to be brown and tan when in fact it was actually pink and cream, kept the cushions at home for a few days after to allow them to dry thoroughly and had no bother at all with them
The Rug Doctor extracts the dirt. I used to clean carpets and upholstery part time when I retired.
If a customer had only one item to clean I was cheaper than hiring a machine and paying for cleaning chemicals. However if doing more items hiring was usually cheaper .
So why not hire and clean carpets or upholstery in the house and caravan.
