Hi I have purchased a really old caravan that needs a lot of work doing to it which doesn't scare off me or my partner we are actually looking forward to it!
My question is how do we know where needs resealing on the outside and how do we do it? The bathroom was completely rotten so have ripped out the wooden wall ply wood bit and taken out the polystyrene ready to be replaced and to dry out. We will replace the wooden batons also as we're so rotten theyou fell out! But obviously if it's gotten like that it's coming in from somewhere. How do I pinpoint it and then fix it? Is it just a case of resealing all that area? Can we just take out old mastic stuff and replace with new or is it not that simple?
Sorry for seeming dim but new project for us so came to you guys for advice!
Thanks, Vicki

Sounds like you have got yourself a big project.
I think that old mastic will be removed by applying white spirit, which seems to act as a solvent.
I am sure others will be along who have a lot more experience than me to give you some advise.
Good luck

Before resealing clean with meths as white spirt will leave a film that will stop the mastic sticking as well as it should do.

are you making your van roadworthy?    We are doing up an old, rotten, damp van, but it is never going to be moved.   This makes a massive difference to how you make it habitable.
We have cladded walls, very cheaply, with plastic panels which will last forever! They cover all sorts of problems! Also spent a fortune on sealants but they do the job!!
