Could anyone advise me ht of theow I can protect my rubber seals around my windows and the black rubber on the side of my caravan, as it looks as if it is perishing. I am sure somebody told me to use vaseline, I have completely forgotten what to do.And green algae
I also paid someone to ckean my old caravan, I had no damp, I told him not to use a pressure washer, he did not, but used a hose, I noticed he had cleaned the front
of my caravan and the inside wall was wet even though the window was shut. It has now dried out, not sure why this happened...is this common ? Thanks

hi no its not common i think you need new rubbers on the front when your pulling the van the front gets every thing at it the weather and if it rains it will come in with the force you can use vaseline on the rest but you must look after the front ones hope this helps cheers .tom

Hi Wendy and welcome to the forum.
You say you think the rubber seals look perished, that may be the reason for water getting in during cleaning, glad to hear that it's dried out again. Very good that you didn't let him use a pressure hose. The other bit of good news is that it is all replaceable and parts are relatively cheap so not a huge problem if the labour can be done by yourselves.
I don't think Vaseline is good to use as it's petroleum based and could make things worse, someone with more knowledge will advise on that.

I use olive oil on ours, works a treat.
Just a light coating over the rubber, couple times a year.
Vaseline will attract bits sticking to it?

Water may well have come in around window seal. As advised use silicone spray to lubricate window rubbers. Open windows right up. Clean around rubbers with meths & then spray with silicone spray & plump up with fingers. Do this twice a year.

You can use Pledge firniture polish but silicone spray is better. Find it among the other spray lubricants in Halfords etc.
