Hi folks, I'm going to try and reword a question from another thread because I think I just confused folks.
I bought an old 93 Swift caravan as a starter, to see how we get on in the caravaning world,

The Huyton who sold it me was using it as a hideaway from his family so he could paint miniature models or something,

Anyway, he always used the caravan on the mains, and the lights etc work OK, same when I took it home,
The battery connected up to the charger/transformer was long dead,
So I bought a new one,
But soon as I connected the crocodile clips to the battery, the two 15amp fuses in the transformer blow, I've made sure the transformer is unplugged from the mains, and unplugged from the caravan, but still the battery blow those fuses,

Have I bought too much battery for such an old transformer?
The transformer says it's a 10amp
And the battery says it has an initial current of 30amp

I thought maybe an upgrade of charger/transformer, but shopping around has left me confused as all the modern stuff looks nothing like my old one, my old one has a mains plug which plugs into a normal three pin household plug socket, (I assume this powers the charger from the 230v being fed from the mains) a red and black wire with crock clips on the end, and another plug and wire which leads to the rest of the caravans wiring and fuse boards.

The newer models I see, seem to have a kettle lead and red and black wire with spade connectors, I'm not sure how they would be compatible with an older van.

Not an expert by any means, but looking at your other thread, I'd agree with Tango55 and DaveS1 regarding battery connection - if it's the wrong way round the fuses are probably blowing to protect the other circuitry in the charger.

Notice you are using crocodile clips on the battery leads, which might have been acceptable when the 'van was being used as a static "den", but not really suitable for when it's being towed as the clips could easily become detached and possibly short out the 12v feed from the towcar, so ought to be replaced with car-type clamps to fit the battery posts (like these), or quick-release clip-on ones (like these).

I don't see the battery capacity being an issue. Since you have the problem even when the charger is unplugged from the mains, there can only be 4 other possibilities: - output leads have been connected to the wrong battery terminals;
- or the output leads are connected to the battery correctly, but the wires themselves have reversed connections at the charger (unlikely);
- or all connections are correct but the output leads are damaged/shorting out somewhere between the charger and the battery;
- or the charger is faulty.

Check the wiring first

I apologise if I've wasted good folks time, but I've got it working.

I went out today and bought some new fresh 15v fuses, and now all is well, I don't flipping believe it to be honest, it blew through six fuses that I had in the tool box, but fine now with spanking new ones,
Again I apologise for wasting folks time.
Unbelievable.

Is that battery in the picture a caravan leisure battery? have you got a picture of the whole battery?

No problem, but keep an eye on it anyway, as chrisn7 suggests, the charger-to-battery leads could be damaged ("other possibilities:...- or all connections are correct but the output leads are damaged/shorting out") so worth checking all the 12v wiring, and replacing clips with clamps as suggested earlier.

I haven't got a pic of the entire thing, but what you see is what it is, no other writing anywhere, bought it on eBay, sold as a leisure battery

We had a TP2 that you used to charger that would to that straight of the mains 240 volts

Please don't plug this into the mains until you have checked the mains plug and cable. A member of my staff's husband was electrocuted by an electric cement mixer bought second hand, which became live and had no proper earth.

Dud fuses are not unknown. Had a batch once that did kept blowing - I think the the wrong moulding had been used for the wire rating
