Hi all & thanks for taking the time to look at this.
Just returned from a good weekend at Thelkeld hall caravan site.
Had some problems with my oven while I was away. The oven will light up looks OK then after a few minutes goes out. Will restart right away.
But keeps going out.
Any help ,tips would be appreciated.
Cheers Jim

Didn't think it was cold enough to give that problem.but it was the fist time we have been away in January, will try a Red bottle on it first.

butane will freeze at 5 degrees winter camping and caravanning is best down with the use of propane or you will have problems such as you have been

If you do some research in books or on Google with reference to winter caravanning you will find that Propane is always advised as it is compatible with colder temperatures and than Butane will cause problems which you have encountered. Most caravanners will use Butane all year round and if you need a lighter cylinder to lower the noseweight then Calor do the Calorlite version which is about half the weight of a steel one.

If you do decide to change to Propane its worth noting that some people have experienced difficulties in having their Calor stockist exchange the bottles. Its quite clear on Calor's website that exchanges within the same group can be made.As marg6 says you will need a new regulator. If you have problems their is a Calor Centre at Carlisle which is not too far from you. https://www.calor.co.uk/gas-bottles/calor-stockists-and-dealers/calor-centres

Try Go Outdoors if you go ahead they changed a 4.5 kg butane for a 6kg propane for me, but that was a while ago now... maybe things have changed.

When I enquired at GoOutdoors they informed me that they would swap any two bottles providing both bottles carried the same deposit. No doubt you will be aware of the G O at Penrith

One other possibility worth looking at is the flame-failure device, if the oven has one. If its only the oven, and not the hob burners or grill, this could be the problem.

If your using Calor Gas,you can change between Propane and Butane anytime, bottle sizes could be a different matter, but I've changed bottle sizes down with no problem, and be told it's ok to switch back up in size again anytime.
Our van has the same problem on Propane,so it's time to check the thermo-coupling.

If the temperature is the problem try any other gas appliances, fire, water heater, fridge, BBQ point if any of these work then agreed most likely problem is the cooker thermo coupling. The point I was trying to make re the changing of gas types are that some dealers stick rigidly to the Calor conditions (as shown on the Calor website) swaps can be made but only within the bottle group. If you have a dealer that is prepared to go further that's great and certainly worth an ask.
