Hi, We have a lunar Quasar 2007 model which is generally in excellent condition having been serviced every year.
Went out to it today to have a good look round and have discovered a patch of damp at the nearside rear floor on the outside, the wood is dark grey in colour and on giving it a press with my finger water squeezed out ,and on rubbing the wood the top coat of wood came away, so no doubt water has been absorbed into the wood, I can't really see where it is coming from , the total area is probably 6inch square, is this something that i need to worry about, can it be repaired, or should i look at trading it in, which i don't really want to do.
Any thoughts please, thanks

If you are not sure get a local engineer to fully damp test it for you. Nothing is irrepairable if you have the time or money and something this small might be an easy fix.

I wouldn't rush to swap it out if you like the van, leaks are quite common and generally easy to fix.

If you can squeeze water out, you have a serious leak. Being able to rub away some of the timber indicates its started to rot. Whilst you can see a 6 inch square area, leaks can affect a very large area before they become visible. This needs attention now.

Trading in with this present will be spotted and the price you receive will reflect the problem.

Thanks for your reply, I have gone round the whole van with a damp meter and found no more damp problems , we have decided to get the van fixed as generally in good condition, so if it costs a lump of money will be cheaper than changing the van , once again thanks for the reply

If you have had it serviced every year the damp reports should of picked up high readings before it got so bad.

Thanks for your response. having looked at last years damp report from service engineer in which water ingress was found under the entrance door which has now been fixed, all other areas were fine, I check for damp levels regularly and they have always been o.k . The damp area in question i think has started since xmas. Having done some more investigatory work myself, i think the water is getting in via the rear roof seam. My service engineer is calling on Saturday and will have a good look, and then hopefully book it into a damp specialist who will undertake the repair.
I was panicking when i first discovered the damp, but now realise providing it hasn't got to bad can be fixed albeit with a financial cost. Thanks again for troubling to reply

If you have a damp meter I would test the van regularly yourself.
A sloppy fitter with a damp meter can cost you a lot of money.
That amount of damp doesn't happen over night or a couple of months unless the outside gets damaged.
The corner awnings rails (Usual suspect) cost's about £80/90 to reseal £20 for across the back.
Well that's what we charge.
It's amazing how quickly the wood will dry out once you stop the leak, Use a dehumidifier if its softened the wall board try and lift the vynl it will dry really fast that way.

Thanks for your response, I have given the van a good look over and am in agreement with yourself it looks to me like the awning rail needs resealing, my mobile engineer is coming tomorrow, he is a Approved Mobile Workshop and has a very good reputation locally, so hopefully will be fixed tomorrow. It hasn't rained now for a few days and the wood is drying out nicely, thanks once again
