Help please!
The electrics in my caravan have fused twice in as many days.
The caravan came out of winter storage and despite being charged regularly the lights did not work when on the leisure battery but were fine when plugged into mains (both at home when charging and when hooked up onsite) Changed a fuse and all well whilst onsite (both EHU and leisure battery)
After towing home again, there was no power on leisure battery but fine whilst plugged in at home. Changed fuse and all well.
Now fine again whilst on leisure battery since getting home.
Any suggestions as to problem. Could it be something thats happening between tow bar electrics and fuse?
The lights in the caravan are divided into two catagegories, 12 volt lighting and 240 volt mains lighting but they won't be both on the same circuit. The 12 volt lights will have fuses but the mains only has trip switches at the MCB (circuit board).
Your question sounds a bit confusing but it sounds like it's a 12 volt problem and not a 240 volt mains problem. If the lights don't work from the battery but it does when the caravan is connected to a mains supply then it sounds like the battery is defective. You need to check the voltage of the battery first (not when connected to mains) with a voltmeter and charge preferably with an independent smart charger rather than the caravan's onboard charger.
+1 the battery. The caravan charger is capable of supplying much if not all of the 12v requirement without the battery, which is why your lights work on hook up.
If the battery is now dead, applying charge to it could and does result in the battery seriously overheating to a dangerous state. Happened to me and quite scary
It doesn't sound like the battery because he changes a fuse and it works on battery.
It stops working when he tows it and that seems to blow a fuse. Doesn't say which fuse.
When towing, the leisure battery should charge from the car but only while the engine is running. If this interlock is faulty, the leisure battery will try to help when starting the car and that should blow a fuse effectively disconnecting the battery.
