The toilet in our Swift Challenger 500 is not working. It has been laid up for 16 months without the toilet fitted. Is there some sort of detector in the cabinet that detects when the toilet is inserted which could cause this fault
Do you mean the cassette was removed for 16 months? If the cassette has now been fitted then the toilet should work. Is there any fluid in the flush tank? Was the flush tank emptied when the caravan was laid up? If the flush tank was not emptied then there could be frost damage that is preventing the pump from working.
We need a bit more information to try and diagnose the problem.
I'm guessing this an electric model (in which case there are a number of potential faults), but like Rob & Tina, I'd need more info.
Toilet model
Manual or electric
Exact symptom
sorry for delay in replying lots of pressure with other things. Ok vans been laid up without any water in the flush tank as per winter instruction
s toilet has not been installed. Originally toilet light was not working or toilet, fuse blown replaced light working but not toilet.
How do I remove the cover to get at the electrics, switch and pump.
Is there a magnet inside the waste tank that is operated by a float switch which may have come adrift. There is no smell of burning which you would associate with a burnt out motor.
where would I get a circuit diagram for the toilet any answers to these questions would be appreciated

OK brightspark. You still haven't mentioned what model the toilet is so we are all guessing at an answer!
My first guess would be to remove the cassette. Right at the back you may see a fuse (depending on the model ). Remove and check the fuse and clean the fuse holder with a nail file. Cleaning the holder is important because they corrode.
Yes, there is a magnetic float within the cassette. This sometimes sticks but is not the cause of your current problem.
This magnet reacts with a small switch on a small printed circuit board near to the above fuse. Again failure here will not stop the pump from working.

I'm still not sure what your problem is. You say the toilet is not working, do you mean the flush is not working.
Assuming this has an electric flush, is the leisure battery ok? Are all the other 12 volt electrics working? Is there water in the flush tank?
If you look at the Thetford website you can find diagrams for the different models but as you haven't given any model details it's hard to offer any more advice.
Hi Rob Sorry about the lack of info, just assumed all these toilet were electro and it would be assumed some thing to do with the electrics.
Quite by accident I came across assisted on you tube that gave me the info on how to access the pump, which was very simple, which turned out to be seized. So job sorted, now I was sure I had put this site onto favourites but cannot find it on my Ipad. Do you know anything about ipads do you😕
Thank you all for inputs/recommendations.

So the problem was that the pump didn't work? If you'd mentioned that we might have come up with the answer a bit quicker, it's hard to diagnose a problem when you don't know the symptoms.
Glad you've got it sorted and you tube is great for learning how to fix things.
