I have a 1998 coachman vision. It's in pretty good nick however after buying it last year we discovered a slight damp patch in the shower area . It's about 2cms in width running up the join. It seems as if it's soggy from where they had the shower curtain tied back. I painted it with waterproof paint last year and it seems OK appearance wise. I also resealed outside of the van with sealant. It hasn't got any worse which I'm hoping is a good thing anyway my question is would it be OK to cover over with either perspex or thin vinyl flooring to make the showet water proof as I really don't want to brave the sites showers anymore .

Coachman didn't actually introduce the 'Vision' model until 2016.
If it's a 1998 model it's either an 'Amara', a 'Pastiche' or a 'VIP'.

Cover the wall in thin plastic most good caravan dealers would supply you with the white plastic its about 1 or 2 mm thick just seal the edges with bathroom sealant so water cannot get behind.
A lot of vans have it floor to ceiling from new.

Is it sticky plastic or rigid that I would need to stick? Also what about the bit that's still spongy. Would that be OK to cover over

It's rigid well very flexible but rigid if get what I trying to say.
If you can tear off the vynal from the wallboard it will dry off quite quickly.
Swift just dot and dab sealant on the plastic but I prefer to spread it on with a tillers float.
