When testing the Whale connector block with the leads from the battery,try switching the leads over a few times. Small movements of a jammed or partially seized pump might just get it going.
Once you have got things sorted, its a good idea to keep a spare pump in the van, to save a long trip to an accessory shop when you are miles away. These pumps can only stand running dry for about 30 mins before burning out.
