Hi everyone, I'm new to caravaning so I must seem a bit thick, but my daughter has just bought an Abbey Jubilee. One of the tyres has a bleb and I was going to change it, is the wheel arch removable? Must seem a bit stupid but don't want to damage anything.
Many thanks, Al.
Jack it with a bottle jack under thick metal flange just below axle. Once wheel bolts are off wheel will come out ok. plastic wheel arch is not removable. It looks tight but wheel will come out. If tyres are over 5yrs old it's best to replace both. Safest way to jack up a caravan is with it hitched to car.
Just to confirm that the wheel arch (or 'spat' which is the correct term) cannot be removed. However, if it's anything like the older Coachman models whereby the wheel arches are not curved around the top of the tyre contour, the wheels can be a bit tricky trying to remove them from the hub. The tip is to jack the caravan a little higher for extra access (with the aid of axle stands for support) and slightly deflate the tyre slightly (if necessary) which you should be able to manouvre the wheel and tyre out of position.
That's good news and at least you have managed to change the wheel but as a matter of interest did it end up being an easy task or did it require some manipulation?
