HELP!
Our Fridge has decided on the hottest day of the year to stop working. OH has tried it on Gas (gas ignited and we could hear it put-putting) 12v or 240. What's your best guess as to the fault? Is it repairable? Could we DIY or is it a specialist job?
Cheers

I guess you are talking about a three way fridge in a caravan. They can be quite temperamental if you are on a slope. Alternatively, it could be that the fridge is working, but it will only cool to so many degrees below ambient. Make sure that the fridge is on the shaded side of the van. I always try switching everything off for a min or two, then trying again!

It's not diy unless you are capable of removing fridge. If you pay somebody to do it then normally more viable to fit a new fridge. Could be 240v element has failed so it won't work on mains. If it will not light on gas it could be as simple as burner needing cleaning. That's diy by removing bottom vent from outside & cleaning burner with meths & a brush. If fridge has failed at once on all modes then coolant could have leaked out so fridge is scrap.

Is it not cooling at all or just not cold enough inside ?
Could be ambient. IS your awning on the same side as your fridge vents? If so try to ventilate the awning.

Some vans have vents with removable covers. Normally work OK with them on but in very hot weather won't work well.
15 deg outside you are cooling only 10 deg below ambient.
28deg outside and that 10 deg below is 18 deg in the fridge.

I bought a new fridge last November from Here I originally had it fitted because I leave gas to the professionals. The electrics are very simple but the fitter did not fully secure the fridge and it moved. Eventually I decided to refit myself by adding battens for longer screws and reinforcing the side of the fridge. My fridge was an under arch fridge and as well as longer screws I fitted a support under the rear of the fridge to discourage it from tilting. If I was to do this again I would fit myself and have the gas connection tested on completion. Some of the larger companies came up with prices of over a thousand for supply and fit. The price of the fridge was £570.

Is the fridge totally level? The manual for mine states it should be level to within 5 degrees or less.

We have just taken our new (to us) Pennine Pullman out for a couple of days. The Electrolux RM4200 fridge works on gas but not on 240v. The green indicator light does not come on. We have checked the trip switch and fuse in the plug. If the element has gone, would this stop the green light from illuminating?

Sorry, should have said that it wasn't getting cold either! Fine when running on gas. Where about in Shropshire are you based Battie? I may need to call on you to sort it out! We are in Albrighton where camper is in storage. I have made a note of your phone number.
