Hi. I have a problem with the kitchen mixer tap in my caravan. Water leaks from the base of the spout, where the screw-mount attaches to the base. I checked the o-ring on the spigot, which also holds the spout and the screw mount together. The ring had a slight split, so I obtained a replacement ring (11.6mm i/d by 2.4mm thickness, as advised by whale), but this didn't solve the problem.

Diagnostic process then came up with the conundrum. If I fit the spout from the bathroom to the kitchen assembly - no leak. OK, verify by fitting the kitchen spout to the bathroom assembly. No leak. Puzzled, swapped them around a few times to verify (and also noticed that the ring on the bathroom tap also had a slight split).

Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing the leak, given that it doesn't leak when the two spouts are swapped over? (Unfortunately the bathroom one is short spout, kitchen is long, so the swap isn't a permanent fix).

Thanks in advance for any ideas

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
My friend recently had the same problem,he tried various O rings of the same diameter but different thicknesses coated in vaseline until he found one that gave him a seal.
A lot of pound shops now stock O ring kits and that is where he got his.
That's assuming the spout is intact.
Hope you can sort it.
Regards,
Greg

Hi Greg,

I'll have a look around. The ring I used was the size specified by whale, and it seems strange that it seals on the bathroom fitment, but not th kitchen one, while the bathroom tap also seals OK in the kitchen!

Kind regards,
Tony

Hi Tony,
The only other thing, is there a hairline crack in the spout?. I had that many years ago after a bad winter.
You could barely see the crack.
Have a look with a magnifying glass just in case.
Apart from that I am not sure unless part of the spout has gone porous.
Good luck.
Regards,
Greg

Final result - PTFE tape stopped the leak from the base. However, the extra little bit of pressure revealed the hairline crack up the length of the spout.

Now waiting for a replacement spout from Caratech - beige as I can't get a brown one.

Hope all is well once it arrives!

Thanks for the help/advice.
