Give the reed switch a fine spray with WD40 as it not only expells water but also cleans and is safe to use with electrics as well. The electrical towing socket and plug can accumulate damp due to condensation and the solution to spray WD40 onto the contacts usually works.

The problem you have is that you can't fully seal the board, otherwise the small tactile push button won't work at all. By all means seal the rest of the board, but you'll have to leave the button untreated.
The boards are susceptible to condensation from the tank and they can corrode, including the edge fitted electrical connection to the board too.
Ultimately, you'll probably need a new board and while you could treat it prior to fitting, you won't guarantee prevention of future failure.

Thanks for the replies. Have sprayed with wd40 to start. Fingers crossed it seems to be OK for now.
Contact Spray is supposed to be far better for the purpose than WD40. Available from Toolstation at £2-51 per can.
