I have an elddis avante 515 2014 van and on putting stuff away in my front locker I noticed that the black rubber gas pipe from my regulator to the 6kg calorlite cylinder appeared cracked in the middle. whilst browsing this forum I have learned that these should be replaced regularly and are date stamped.(this is my second van since 2009 and I didn't know that so thank you ukcampsite for that) My question is this, can I replace the length of pipe myself and secure at each end with jubilee clips or am I looking at replacing the whole thing including brass fittings( the thought of replacing with a hand tightening screw rather than a spanner is appealing but I want quick fix as am going away in the van on Sat). I can't find any info on sizes of pipes for this van or sizes of screws/threads.Thanks in anticipation.
If you mean the high-pressure "pigtail" hose between the cylinder and a bulkhead fitted regulator, yes you will need to replace this with a new one of the same type.
(Jubilee-clipped hoses, which are suitable for carrying gas at a much lower pressure, are used between cylinder-top regulators and stoves etc.)
I used to use the hexagon nut type pig tail but because it relies on a brass to brass contact it can cause a minor gas escape which I have encountered in the past. The hand wheel type connector has a rubber seal at the end which solved the problem of gas leaks which is much safer. If the flexible gas pipe needs replacing then just buy the complete hand wheel type pig tail which just locks on to the existing gas pipe.
is there a particular size and does the pigtail come with fittings on either end of the hose?It is a butane cannister 6kg but according to the manual the regulator can take either butane or propane at 30M/bar.We don't go abroad so don't tend to use propane.I notice that hoses I have looked at seem to be for one or the other so don't want to buy the wrong one sorry for the questions but want to be 100% sure what I'm doing because it involves gas. Thanks
Unsure where the Propane and going abroad comes from
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Yes, the regulator will reduce the pressure of either type of gas to 30mb for your appliances.
Notice you mention a butane canister 6kg, but a 6kg Calor Lite earlier (which actually contains propane). No problem if you have a pigtail with the appropriate cylinder connection - ideally with a handwheel as Tango55 suggests.
I think (perhaps someone will confirm?) that this would be a suitable replacement.
(Note that while Calor are apparently withdrawing their "Lite" cylinders, the above item should also be compatible with standard 6kg cylinders - see first link).

That's the correct pigtail for propane use. Although not 100%, I'm fairly sure the butane pigtails aren't supplied with the hand-wheel option as their design isn't suitable; they can only be fitted with use of a spanner.
I'd favour swapping to propane and using the hand-wheel fitting as per Hacksaws Bobs link. however if the Op is determined to use butane, then he needs a suitable pigtail such as this.
The cylinder is propane not butane .got a pigtail with handwheel so that's my first job in the van this weekend. Thanks for all the advice and am assured it will fit any 6kg propane cylinder.
Successful replacement of hose.really easy and took 5-10mins.thank you for all the help and advice.now very aware of checking hose and date.I wonder how many people do.
Indeed. My van was only serviced in May and only one outing before our main holiday. Am annoyed that if I had been checking it , I could have argued with some certainty it had been missed. As it is, I could not say for certain that it was like that before or after the service. Lesson learned.
