Hi all. Just about to buy a 1970's sprite. All dry inside and Chasis seems sound but the a-frame has had it. Would it make a good project and is it expensive to get the a frame rebuilt.
Thanks.
Hi. Ive had a good look underneath. The van has been stood for 20 years outside. The a frame ls corroded up the to point it goes underneath the body. The chasis is sat on top of the a frame.
Cheers.
This is before chassis were galvanised. You need to be careful here because caravan needs to be safe to tow. To do a good job it sounds as if you would have to remove body from chassis. Anything else would be an amateur bodge that might not be safe. A professional welder would be charging £60/hr or more & this job would take a few hrs unless you removed body yourself & prepared everything for welding.
Unless your are prepared to go for it whatever it takes the caravan is probably not worth the cost of the restoration.
Thanks. It will be getting stripped out. The floor is insulated so when removed could find a horror story but I like a challenge or maybe I'm just mad. Surprisingly the interior is bone dry and the floor is solid so fingers crossed.
