Just returned from a good 3 wk hol in my 1993 Elddis Typhoon XL that is permanently exiled in France.( We don't travel far from its storage site).
This year we experienced some tripping of the pitch AC supply & deduced that it was the possibly the Fridge when the van was being switched over from Car supply. This has not occurred before on previous annual stays on the same emplacement.
I found the 240v thermostat control to be really stiff to turn.So I guess that this could be the culprit for replacement. Its puzzling that nothing tripped on the vans mains box. All other Electric kit worked without problems.
The fridge worked fine on gas + we then rented a white-fridge from the campsite to save on gas.
I am asking if anyone has changed this part in situ without extracting the whole fridge & is it worth it?
If not then please advise on steps to isolate the gas supply on removal and provide her ladyship with another cupboard.
It could possibly be the hot water element tripping the electrics, it's like a kettle element and when it gets furred up so much that the scale touches together it trips out.
It's more likely the fridge 240v element is at fault than the thermostat. I can't ever remember getting an earth fault on a thermostat in the 20 odd years in the industry. You need to do an insulation test with a 500v tester. Especially if it's an intermittent fault.
Thanks to Rob and Tina + Fleck 2 for your suggestions. ~It will be next years summer visit before I can pursue these.
As we stay on well-equipped site usually, the water heater doesn't get switched on but thanks.
