I have a swift challenger 450/5. I lifted the caravan to change the wheel and had trouble gettin wheel off the axle due to the bodywork being in the way off the top of the tyre. should the suspension drop to allow you to change a well? if so is there a fix to get it working again ?

Did you jack on axle or chassis? You need tp put jack under the thick metal part of chassis that carries axle to allow suspension to drop to get wheel out.

I jacked it up under the thick metal part of the chassis behind the wheel

It is often quite tight to get wheel out. If might be slightly difficult but it should come out. If you have it jacked on chassis as described there is little else you can do.
