Our van was 3 years old this week & we had her serviced today. It found cracks on the external water housing, BBQ housing & 3 pin plug housing, we have no idea why we didn't spot them. Worst of all there are cracks on the bottom corner of the front panel.
Of course the warranty ends tomorrow. We have just moved and due to the upheaval we couldn't get her serviced before today. The servicing people are going to try for a warranty claim.
I am gutted about the front panel as it is going to mean a new panel. How the hell does something only 3 years old that has been so carefully cared for get cracks?

sounds terrible, hope you get it sorted. The problem you might have is the wait for a new panel. We had a 2 half year old Sprite Quattro that got written off in a RTC. The front panel if i recall was about £2,500 and they didn't have any in stock, so we would have had to wait until there were a few orders so that they would run a small batch in the mould at the same time. But like i say, it got written off so we didn't have to find out how long it would take
you have got in within the end of the warranty, so they will find it difficult to get out of that one.
I know its different, but i claimed on a tv warranty in january...i had notified them a week before the 5 year warranty expired, but they couldn't check it until the day after it expired. they did honour it to my relief. (Richer sounds by the way)
Might find the fixings used to hold the plastic panel in place have been too tight and not allowed for thermal movement while sitting in the sun or deflection when towing.

Don't forget that even though the caravan is 3 years old it is still covered by the Sale of Goods Act and even if Swift reject the warranty claim, then it is the responsibility of the dealer to fit the new panel and do the other work required.
Don't let the dealer fob you off as the warranty is between the dealer and the manufacturer and not the consumer and the manufacturer.
Under SOGA taking into account the price paid any reasonable person would expect the panels to last several or more years.
Thanks everyone. Wobbly Box, that's exactly what the servicing guy said.

Just had both the front and rear panels replaced on my three year old Xplore, done under warranty. The stress cracks were probably an inch long but no quibble from either the dealer or elddis, a job well done. I have no knowledge of the sale of goods act but would a dealer replace a panel after 3 years, I doubt it as they have no knowledge as to how the caravan has been used. It's irrelevant anyway as the caravan was still under warranty when the cracks were found and should be sorted.
