Hi all
We've just bought our first caravan , an upgrade from tents via trailer tent , and have a question about the tyre pressures on the caravan. It's an Abi Ace Globetrotter 1992 , and I was looking on one of the tyre company's ( continental I think ) websites where you can put your info in and it tells you what the pressures are supposed to be. Bearing in mind I drive a 1992/3 Ford Granada/Scorpio 2.9 24v ( coincidental ) it said that the tyre pressures on the caravan should be 58 psi. Can anyone tell me if this is correct as it seems abit high to me ?
That could be correct, my caravan tyres run at 64psi. It all depends on the tyre size and vehicle weights so if you have checked it out on a manufacturers website that pressure is probably correct.
check the tyres that are fitted on the caravan, the max pressure will be stamped on the side wall, carefully check the condition of both tyres including the age of the tyre. Remember inflating a tyre can kill you if you put too much pressure in it.
Many older caravans have original tyre spec with very marginal load rating for weight & it's a good idea to fit same size tyres with higher load rating if available & they will require higher pressures. If it's a fairly largre caravan then 58psi sounds about right for tyres which will be commercial van tyres.

As said already the caravan will not have the original tyres and make sure you check the load index of the tyres as this will be a lot higher than the load index on car tyres. When buying tyres make sure you state the minimum load index require and don't accept a tyre with a lower load index.
