Has anyone tried glueing cracked plastic window stay locks? Our’s are the brown plastic type and our caravan is over 29 years old. Thank you

You will be lucky for plastic to bond together if it's nearly 30 years old merely because plastic age hardens over time and becomes brittle, that's probably the reason for it breaking. I have had plastic component fracture after 10 years of use and have to to replace them because of becoming brittle and cracking.

No harm in trying to repair it with a high strength all purpose bonding agent such as Bostik glue first just to see if it does actually bond together. If it doesn't bond succesfully at least you know that a replacement stay is needed but I think they come in pairs.

Hi,
As Tango says you are unlikely to be succesful, Lidls occassionally sell a superglue in a grey bottle where you squeeze the sides that I have had great results with on plastics.Unfortunately I cannot find it at the moment to give you the name.
The alternative is to take a photo and send with details to link below.
They have trays and trays full of older window and door catches.
They also do mail order.

Bottle description sounds like Loctite Super Glue, which might be worth a try.

Try Q bond. This comes with black and grey filler powder that can fill any cracks or replace slivers that have gone misssing. When used with the powder, it sets very fast, is very hard and can be filed to shape if required.
You might be unlucky as some plastics just don't respond to glueing.

Hi,
I managed to find the glue that I get from Lidl's.
It is called Pattex.
It really has stuck all sorts of plastic when others have failed and I always buy a couple of bottles when it's on sale there.

We tried q bond, but for some reaspn the screws don’t seem to tighten enough to grip the shaft of the window stays. Worth a try, but I’ll have a look on e Bay for some replacements. Thanks

I've found UHU all purpose clear to be good for plastic.

i have had a lot of luck with UniBond Repair Power Epoxy Plastic - 25 ml
so far ive used it on cracked tapps and a cracked window to great effect :)
