Hi again, just an update on my exsisting pump issue. My partner came over and bought a leisure battery and connected it to the caravan and found that the pump was working and all the other lights in the caravan but now it's stopped again. He has noticed it's not registering on the control panel but when he switches the switch on and off the little lights flicker on and off!!!
Anyone able to enlighten me please as it's driving me nuts, could it be simply the switch?

The only way you can find out is if you undertake a test with a voltmeter and and do a process of elimimnation. You may have a leisure battery connected up now but is it fully charged?
A voltmeter will tell you how many volts are in the battery which should be around 12.7 volts.
Is the charger working, again you need a voltmeter, disconnect the battery and test the positive and negative connections to see what voltage you have from the charger when connected up to the mains.
If all is well then test the switch itself to see if that is defective.

My partner thinks it might be a faulty switch but not sure.

Some smart battery chargers won't output any voltage if disconnected from the battery, they need a voltage to analyse the state of charge of the battery.

The battery is a brand new battery and it's indicating it's fully charged, am I being thick or does the battery charge when the van is connected to the mains, people keep mentioning a charger but I'm sure there isn't one it's an old 1997 bailey and I've not got a handbook

There will definitely be a battery charger on a 1997 caravan but like I stated in my previous post, you need to check the output of it. Like everything else, electrical components have a life span and may not be functioning correctly. I had to change one about 2 years ago and many others on this forum have had to as well but the only way you are going to find out is test it with a voltmeter otherwise you're just guessing what the problem could be.

It doesn't help that we don't have a user manual and can't find one, looking on eBay but nothing, would the charger be under the seating? The park warden has a voltmeter as we have checked fuses?

The charger is quite likely to be under one of the seats or somewhere near the mains consumer unit, wherever that is. My 1992 Elddis has a battery charger so I'm sure yours will have.

Easy enough to check anyway. Turn the mains off, put a voltmeter across the battery, then turn the mains back on. The voltmeter should rise slightly. If it doesn't, either you don't have a charger or if you have, it isn't working.

-------------
Best Regards,
Colin
