We have had the caravan repaired. Water ingress in 3 places. I am happy that it is now leakage free but I am converned how long it will take to dry out and will it rot in the meantime. Can anybody answer this question.
i recently had replace my entire bedroom ceiling, all the joists etc were sodden wet,, rotten.. 1st caravan, 1st time attempting all this.. went ok
it wont dry out if wet enough.. dont be scared.. if it needs it,.. rip it out !
Our 2012 Swift had to go back for water ingress at 18 months old. Seems OK since (fingers crossed), and passed test during service this last March.
For many years there have been plenty of wood preserving products for pre-build so, if the caravan manufacturers do not treat the wooden structure, why not?

This why it is better to diy damp repairs. Then you know it has been done properly. As you have paid somebody you can only trust that they have done a good job.
If they have done a proper job then the damp will no longer be there & any rotten wood will have been replaced. You should have received a complete breakdown of work done on your invoice.
Nobody on this forum can answer the question you ask. You need to ask the repairer. If he is good he will give you an honest answer & if he is bad he won’t.
if it’s done properly it shouldn’t still be damp.
If you are saying it is still damp where it has been repaired, that would suggest that it has only been sealed on the outside with no internal wallboards removed or timbers replaced or inspected for rot.. This to me would also suggest that the moisture is trapped within the structure and over a period of time will indeed continue to rot the timbers.
As another suggestion (yes I have plenty) I would make lots of small pinholes in the wallboard. Or even cut in a small circular vent here and there to let moisture escape. You could accelerate the process by using a dehumidifier but remember to tape up all vents so your not drawing in outside air.
Thanks for all your replies. We have a dehumidifier so we will put that in. Each side the van at the back. The bar along the back of the van there was a gap. It has been taken off and sealed and the water had run along to the sides of the van in the wardrobe and above the toilet. The only problem is we cant see what its like behind the shower with it being plastic. None of the board are soft. It just gave a high reading at the service.
