Topic: Refitting a front marker light

I had to remove one of my front marker lights and in the process managed to break one of the rubber cavity fixings that hold on the light but how do these work? I tried putting it in a tightening the screw and I just assumed that it would come back on itself and create the seal but it would appear that this is not the case!

Also what sealant do I need use when refitting it?

I've never had to replace one yet myself but I have heard that quite a few light fittings are indeed secured using the first item. I believe the difficult bit is trying to prevent the rubber insert turning whilst tightening the screw sufficiently to get the rubber part to expand and grip on it's own.

Ive used these to fit lights back in on my van.Just get the size which fits the hole.With the Butterfly fixing you may have to open the hole a wee bit..

You don't really need the long ones. Use the shortest you can get away with as this means less rubber contorted behind the panel. A lot of distorted rubber can make future removal a bit of a pain.

The rubber is bonded to a metal nut, so add a drop of Waxoyl to the bolt threads to stop corrosion

So do I put the rubber in first and then tighten the screw to get it to bond or do I put the screw through the light through the rubber fixing and then tighten? I only ask because I tried both and either way worked with is why I was wondering if you needed the setting tool. There is a thread on the light so there so its not free to spin to get the rubber to bunch up and lock into place.
