When attempting to light the gas on my 3 way caravan fridge, it briefly lights with "whoosh" sound then immediately goes out. I have cleaned the area around the burner and have plenty of gas - all other gas appliances work fine. Any thoughts as to the likely problem?
Are you holding the button pressed in for at least 10 seconds? That allows the thermocouple to heat up which keeps the valve open.
If the thermocouple is cold it shuts the gas off, its a safety device. If the flame goes out the thermocouple cools down and shuts the gas off to prevent the van filling with gas.
Firstly, have you checked that the power selection dial is on GAS and not in the 'OFF' position or '240 volt' or '12 volt' setting?
If it's not set to GAS then the flame will go out even after 15 seconds.
However, I had exactly the same problem with our fridge last year thinking it was a defective thermocouple so when the caravan was serviced I asked the engineer to check the reason why the flame kept extinguishing. It turned out just to be a blocked jet so he removed and cleaned it and the fridge pilot light functions okay now.
