Hi all,

We bought 1997 2 Berth Baileys Pageant Magenta a few months ago. I know the water pump works because they guy who sold it and serviced it showed me working. However, we have had no such luck getting it working for us.

I bought a new pump and tried it. Nothing. I tried battery only, mains only. Pushing the pressure on and off at the whale switch under the seats. Running hot water only. Cold water only. Turning the heating on or off. Making sure the pump is al the bottom of the barrel etc. What am I missing? Should I take it to a service garage? It's Whale Carver outside pump you just drop in the water barrel.

We are off touring tomorrow and really need it to work. Amy suggestions. Most welcome!

The first thing to check when 12 volt equipment stop working is to always check the fuse which seems to be what you are missing. If you have tried running the pump on a 1997 caravan direct from the mains supply without a battery in circuit then that could well be the reason for over-loading the supply thus blowing the fuse for protection.

Hi, have you switched the switch panel selector down to caravan then the pump switch on if it's like our 97 bailey there is a red light below pump switch which illuminates when pump is powered

Fuses okay, so have you actually checked the battery with a voltmeter to see how much voltage remains?
The water pump may have been working a few months ago when you bought the caravan but if the battery hasn't been re-charged and left to go flat then that's most likely to be the problem. You need to test the battery first to eliminate any further guess work then reply with the results of the test.

It may just be your battery is a bit low.
If you can't physically test the fuse try another,it may look ok but be blown, unlikely but not unknown.
I keep a cheap multimeter in the van,but I was an electronics technician in the past!

The gauge on the caravan control panel is just a reference guide as to where the remaining voltage is but no means should be used a confirmation to an exact reading which is what you need to know. A basic voltmeter can be purchased for under a tenner which comes with instructions which is worth having as it's a lot cheaper to do your own detection rather than just guessing what's wrong and ending in requesting a mobile service engineer to sort the problem.

No luck anywhere on the meter. I'll try switching the fuse in a bit.

You need to be a bit more specific with your reply as I'm not sure what you mean by 'No luck anywhere on the meter'. Do you mean that the meter isn't registering when it's switched on or you have tried checking the leisure battery without any success?
Also, I'm totally lost with.... 'switching the fuse in a bit' ?????

Sorry, I meant I couldn't find one (volt meter) to buy, they were out of stock in three places I tried.

Also changed the fuse. It didn't work either but it could be the spares are gone too.

We.re hitting the road shortly so the journey might charge up the battery enough to try again.
