Hi I wonder can anyone help I bought a used caravan and they must have seen me coming! Amongst many faults is the carver cascade 2 rapide water heater (we think), it works on mains electricity but not on gas. When I push the button on the control it goes to green this is supposed to mean it’s working fine however there is no hiss of gas and no ignition spark but the green light stays on and no other shows. I have pushed the plugs in at both the control and the board but no change any advice would be appreciated thanks and best regards. Ashley
Welcome Ashley. How long have you left it running on gas? When I switch ours on I can't hear anything either, but it heats the water fine. When its running, every now and then you can hear a tick, tick, tick from the ignition, and a whoosh as it lights up to keep the water up to temperature, but I have never heard a hiss of gas from it. If I did I would get worried. It has to be very quiet to hear anything at all.
Hi Colin and thanks we have left it on for hours and still nothing. I took the cover off outside of the caravan no spark no gas nothing. Even when I turned the gas off the green light was still showing it was working ok. I am beginning to think there is something not working on the control panel that has the on off buttons. Thanks and best regards Ashley.
Sounds like you have a slightly later version than ours if you have push-buttons and an electric element too. Ours is gas only, and has a slide-switch on the control box. Seems a bit strange that the green light stays on yet it doesn't work. If the gas runs out on ours, the light switches to red.
Are you sure there is gas getting to the heater? Is it possible there is a gas isolation valve that you haven't found yet. They can be easy to miss.
i have issues with my carver water heater and am looking for a safe replacement such as the propex mains low voltage water heater which should sit where carver heater is currently and i would like to enquire if anyone has had a similar issues . and if so has the change over been effective where the ekectric heater can use the pump as a water source from a barrel and punp via the heater to the taps

Gary at Ark Systems in Nottingham is the Go-To guy for Carver stuff IMO. Years of experience and specialist parts too. Website link.
Dave.
That is the name I was trying to think of. I would have recommended him too if I could have remembered. Haven't needed to use him personally, but I have seen some of his posts and he certainly seems to know what he is talking about.
Thanks again Colin and all, I would not bother with gas as the electricity works fine but we often use 5 van sites without electricity so gas is a must. regards Ashley
Hi all, I thought I would let you know I have solved the problem with the boiler working on gas, with the advice from yourselves and my own suspicions after the control unit showed no fault after I turned the gas off, I suspected that the control unit was the faulty link. My wife persisted to look for a used tested control unit only to order one on several occasions to be told later the unit was damaged. Eventually she had luck and the unit arrived to day, I quickly fitted the control and success we now have a boiler working on electricity and gas. Thanks to all and best regards Ashley
Glad your sorted and sorry you don't appear to have contacted me. This control switch problem is unique to very early 90s vans and the particular burner modules they were originally fitted to.
Thanks though to those giving me a plug, can you though recommend they simply phone me for help 😊
