Just bought a new Coachman vip with Dometic toilet fitted . Seen other threads about problems with this type of toilet . My main concern is the amount of lubrication it needs. The sliders for discharge flap , the seals all need lubricating VERY often with silicone grease. Silicone grease is not cheap . Never had this problem with Thetford toilet . Any comments . Even thought of seeing about changing it for a Thetford .

Olive oil is a very good substitute for silicone grease on seals (according to the late, great Wickersham).
I do think though that swapping out a loo from a brand-new caravan is a little extreme. Why not see how it goes and do this if there's ever a problem?

I can't believe that someone can splash out on a brand new caravan and afraid to spend a little extra cash on a can of silicon spray for maintenance of a brand new toilet. If you remove the Dometic one for a Thetford brand then the warranty is demolished as well as the toilet.
You may as well saved your money and bought a second hand caravan.
Thanks for your comments . Its not JUST the cost of the lubricant , but the hassle and frequency of having to do it . I have used spray , but some of the parts need grease . It says in the hand book about every three emptying's . That's what I call extreme

With the Thetford toilet I think they just advise to lubricate the lip seal and to leave the flap open if left over the winter period. However, it does seem a little extreme having to lubricate the tank every three emptyings but if that is what Dometic recommend then it's best to adhere to their advice otherwise just lubricate it once when packing up so it's all lubricated ready for next time.
I’m not even sure you could swap them over without having to cut further holes in the van for the flush tank filler flap - pretty sure they are in slightly different places
I think lubrication every three emptyings is extreme, I do mine once or twice a season. You don't say why you need to do it? does the flap stick, is the mechanism tight, perhaps some fault needs addressing and all will be well.

The emptying flap is quite stiff to pull out , (on the Dometic you pull it out from front rather than side as with Thetford ) . Once it has been lubricated it seems much better . I visited the Dometic stand at NEC last week , they admitted there was a problem with the rubber seals on which they are working. Frankly - less than helpful

It sounds like you have found the problem and that it won't be fixed until the seal is replaced for a non-problem one. If Dometic had been more helpful they may have aknowledged that their supplier was at fault AND sent you a free replacement.
