Hi all, so I am pondering the thought of taking my caravan to my Dad's and leaving it there, this is where we plan to spend 4 weeks a year as holiday, my only concern is the weather over winter.
He is in the Cairngorm national park and it get's cold plus there is feet of snow every winter. Is it going to take a toll on the van? is X ft of snow on the roof going to do harm etc etc Any thoughts and care tips on the matter would be appreciated, while I only have a 2005 Abbey, I did want to get a few years out of it!
Thanks for the reply, he is up near the ski centre so the snow is around for a while. Yeah I get 5 weeks holiday a year, the other week I use to do jobs around the house. One thing concerned me was the snow blowing in the toilet roof vent, maybe I could seal it up with plastic covering before the winter and the floor vents would be enough to air the van?
if you got a decent cover for your caravan such as one from specialised and put that on it, then that would help protect it from any problems, but don't use one of the cheaper ones as they aren't waterproof, and aren't a decent fit and cause issues with damage to the paintwork. a few footballs placed on the roof under the cover will make a pitch for any water/snow to run off.
Surely ifyour dad is there then he could check on the caravan to make sure snow isn't building up past floor height? even just walking around the caravan would compress it enough and allow air flow under the caravan.
Thanks for the replies, those specialised covers look like the job and better than the Kampa one I currently have.
My dad is of some age now, hence wanting to spend as much time up there as possible, his mobility isn't great so expecting him to do any jobs to the caravan while it is up there is unfair on him.
