I have just bought my Swift Challenger 530se and it has a status aerial fitted which I've not had before. Tried it with my TV plugged into the internal aerial socket, no reception, checked the socket and there is a white cable fitted to it which looks fine, on checking the power pack there are 4 coax cables , 1 white one from the aerial and 2 brown one's into the tv out sockets and 1 black hanging loose as well as the 12v cable connected. neither of the brown cables seem to feed the wall socket. I've traced one to the radio but the other is a dead end with no connection on it.
Anyone know where the white cable from the wall socket would be going to?
I've connected a lead from the tv direct into the power pack and get a good reception.
Also does the aerial only work on mains electric?
any advice would be appreciated.

I know it's sounds daft but have you tuned in the TV channels and the booster switched on?
The power pack only works on 12 volts and it's one of those things that gets left switched on accidentally because it's hidden away and will drain the battery. This has happened to me a couple of times.

We have the 530 had it from new and all original wiring. The white goes to the antenna in wardrobe and the other two go to the TV input near the side dinette and the other to the front binnacle. The radio has an aerial on the side of the caravan. These radio aerials have a built in amplifier which are known to pack up. It is possible that the extra coax you have has been put in and used to connect the radio to the Status. If you TV points are not working I would check at floor level below them both that the coax connectors have not come apart as when we bought our caravan new the dinette one did not work and I found the connector apart.
The aerial does not need mains,the boost level light should be able to be switched on with battery only

It possible that the socket you connected to was supplied to the factory pre-wired with a pigtail, so it could be used in different model vans. The Status unit would then be connected to that with its own wire as the location of the wardrobe where they are often positioned would vary. Trace the ends of both - they may simply need joining.

Some status units have a length of black wire that connects to a separate telescopic aerial outside on the side of the van.

There have been updates to the Status units that have LEDs to assist with tuning

Anyone know where the white cable from the wall socket would be going to?
It is common to have two inputs to the amp. One from the aerial and one from the external aerial socket usually in the battery box. If you are on a pitch with TV point you plug into this. You need to make sure you have the input from the antenna, not from the aux input.

I've connected a lead from the tv direct into the power pack and get a good reception.
This shows you have the correct lead fitted and the antenna and amp is working.

Also does the aerial only work on mains electric?
No it is fed from battery but does usually have an on/off switch on it and an LED to show its on.

You need to check continuity on the cables to see where they go.

Thank you all. You've given me pointers to go on. I shall investigate more. That's the trouble with older vans people mess about with them, altering wiring and so on and not doing it properly. You should see the wiring bodge job they've done for the battery charger because the built-in one stopped working. That will be sorted at a later date. Rose

Talking about people messing about with older vans. Our second van was a 1999 model and we had problems with the TV aerial and tried just about everything. It must have been 6 months on and eventually gave up on it till another rallier said what an excellent TV signal it was in the area.
I explained our dilemma so he came and had a look only to find that the previous owner had cut the coax completely directly under the aerial and pushed the cable back up through the hole in the ceiling. The aerial cannot be re-attached on the omni-directional (dish) aerial so had to buy a second hand one off Ebay complete with corresponding booster at a cost of £80. I removed the existing one from the roof, applied the waterproof sealant and then replaced with the new one. Connected it all up and was fine from then on. I posted this because it's just worth checking out first as some people tamper about with things, bodge them up and leave people to pick up the pieces. The annoying part was that we bought from a dealer and they are supposed to check everything before hand which proves that they don't.

tango55, That's not the problem here as I can get a reception if I plug the TV directly into the power pack. Although when I traced one of the brown leads back I found that had been cut off under the caravan but cant find where it was going to.

Can anyone help we have a status aerial power pack that we found runs to a battery, we connect it and tune aerial and get 146 channels and then goes of , I'm assuming it's losing its connection on the battery
