Hi all.
So we have recently purchased our 1st caravan.
Had our 1st weekend away in it but i believe i have found a bit of damp under one of the side windows.
I thought i had checked all the wall when we purchased it but obviously missed a bit.
Im saying damp as the wall under the window is softer than the others. you can feel it slightly when you push in your finger tips.
I have double checked round all other windows and everything else seem solid.

What is the recomended fix for this issue or best action to help it?

It is the end that we sleep and the side our heads are.

Thanks to all in advance.

You don't say if it's a new or used caravan or how long you have owned it.

If it's used then I recommend that you have the window and frame removed and reinstalled. This will allow the cause and extent of the dampness to be ascertained and any remedial work undertaken.

Apologies.
It is a 2nd hand, 2005 Bailey Pageant Provonce.

May have to look in to having the window out in the summer and getting it all sorted.

Use a damp meter as that will give you a better idea of the extent and area that the damp has affected.

When you bought the van were you told that it was free of damp and if you purchased your van from a dealer what sort of guarantee were you given?

it was a private, 2nd hand sale.
Didnt have a moisture meter with me when we looked at it. but i felt the walls and did not feel any softness then. I must of missed this one spot.
Think it will be a window out job to have a look when we have got a nice weekend. see whats happenning and go from there.

Hi blueexpo. Site looks useful, thank you.
Think the best corse of action is wait for a nice weekend and take the window out to have a look.
Had a check on it last night and it feels dry, just a bit soft. hopefully not a full on strip out job!!!! but on a posative note, i can not find any more anywhere else.

We had the same problem in our van, i think it's quite a common area to get damp. We removed all the old sealant from around the windows and the awning rail and re sealed during the summer . It seems to have done the trick and our van is now dry. A fairly cheap way to do it yourself. X
