Hi,need a bit of advise.went to service the caravan brakes and couldn't undo the lock wheel bolt on rhs.seems the lock nut pins have worn to the extent no grip to remove the wheel bolt.lunar unable to source a new lock nut !! Tried a cutting nut on the wheel bolt and only succeeded in removing the top 5 mms of the wheel bolt.any ideas? Seems only 2 options ie weld another bolt on to the broken head and run the risk of alloy damage or attempt to repin the locking nut if I can get the offending pins out?

Take the caravan to a proper independant tyre garage, often they have the tools to remove alloy locking nuts.

The big name fast fit places probably wont want to know. Phone around the smaller local places.

Or you can buy the kits to remove them.

Hi, locking wheel nut removal tools are available to buy for under £20 off internet, if you have a local independent garage near by they may be able to remove it for you if you could tow caravan to them. Also search on YouTube for locking wheel nut removal and various videos are on there showing just this problem.

Hi Grampian and Amber and thanks for your comments.situation now resolved.replaced 2 pins on the locking nut however this still slipped when trying to undo! went to plan b took caravan to a welder who drilled a large hole in the lock nut.then loosely fitted it , then welded through the hole.allowed time for heat to get to the wheel bolt then cup of cold water.socket on welded lock nut then easily undid the bolt .back on the road after servicing the brakes.
