Brian,
I wasn't 'having a go', just stating facts. That's EXACTLY the mentality that pervades when using EHU. 'I've paid for it, I'm gonna use it....'
No objections to folks using what they have paid for as long as they know what they are allowed to use!
Any electrical item under 1000watts will not trip the electric on a site using the lower ^amp posts, I know cos our van has never yet tripped out the lecky, and the highest wattage on items we use is a 1000w heater.
I still find that those who have all the mod cons in a caravan and do not use them should just go for a less sophisticated caravan, in fact if you do not use the cooker, toilet, or shower why not just go for a van with bench seats that convert into a bed!
The George Foreman grills are for healthy cooking....maybe the 'vanner using it had no oven? Maybe special dietary requirements?
We do not have an oven, two rings and grill and I am on a special diet the only item I cannot cook either in a grill or in the grill pan on a ring is a baked potato, this can be wrapped in tin foil and placed in the barbie. There is very little that cannot be cooked healthily on a gas ring using a pan with a grill in the bottom to allow fat to drip off, basically that is all the george Foreman grill does!
as for metered electricity, this won't happen, as it's (I believe) illegal to charge like that? If it isn't I'm sure someone'll correct me?
As yet this has not happened (unless someone knows different)because I reckon some sites would lose out doing so. The post could have a meter installed and coins used in the same way as in some showers, as long as the charge did not exceed the charge th site payed the supplier for the electricity then there should not be a problem with this. I cannot see this happenning though as the cost of meters and fitting etc would not make this a viable proposition for a lot of small sites.
Just playing devil's advocate, not arguing....
Me too and your post made it easy to answer from my limited knowledge!
We the campers and caravanners are the ones who can stop rising prices of caravans and tents and accessories by not giving in to the keeping up with the top of the range mob.
BTW if anyone wants to swap a caravan with all the mod cons for a basic van with single cold tap and portaloo please get in touch! Oh and better if there is no money changes hands on the deal as I ain't got any, on the other hand if you feel you need to give me a couple of grand to take away your spotless unused posh van then I will certainly not object!
