I think I posted elsewhere about our window leaking. We want to remove it to let it dry etc. Have removed all the screws bar two. Very rusted. Have tried everything we can think of. Anyone any ideas?
If you have an electric soldering iron try holding the heated tip on the screw head for couple of minutes then try them, it often works or even give them a light tap with the screw driver in as though trying to knock a nail in but go steady hitting the screw driver end and of course mind you fingers.
We’ve tried the knocking, have done that a few times. And after wd40 too to no avail sadly. Don’t have a soldering iron but can see why that could work. Would it be a risk given the surround is all plastic though?
If you have a dremel drill or similar, you could try cutting a slot across the pozi head and then use a flat headed screwdriver. This could cause some damage to the surrounding plastic frame though.
Screwdriver with a tip in good condition and 2 people. Apply plenty of pressure and undo torque while the other person strikes the end of the screwdriver (use a pound thru type if possible to avoid possible shattering of the handle). Bit like using an impact driver but less brutal. This might just crack it free, but the head might just shear off too since its rusty...
Sometimes a small ratchet with a screwdriver bit will do the job when a screwdriver won't, but plenty of pressure needed.
Would the WD40 or Plusgas or similar cause the wood swell around the threads and have a tighter grip?
Drill the heads off and then use grips to remove whats left of the screw.
Good thing about drilling them off is that you often have a nice dish in the screw to act as a guide. Just use a drill bit slightly larger than the shaft of the screw, not the head.
You dont need to drill all the head away, a hole through the middle with separate it from the shaft.
