Hi, I have a 1992 Silverline Princess Nova GT caravan, it has an 85 amp hr battery, I would like to fit a 50 watt flexible solar panel to the floating aluminium roof. My query is, has anyone actually done this, the panel weighs just over 2 and a half pounds. Thanks in anticipation.

Be aware that flexible stick on panels have a short lifespan, would a 50w freestanding panel work for you as it will be twice the power of a roof mounted 50w.

I really want a fit and forget panel, which is always there, gathering all possible rays. It is the uncertainty of of gluing the panel to the floating roof skin, which concerns me.

Most main caravan dealers sell a soler panel kit that’s worth looking at only extra thing you need to buy is something suitable to stick it on with, don’t brother fitting a 80 watt panel a 100 watt is better if you’re planning on leaving the hook lead at home , there’s also a good thread on the caravan and motor home club forum about solar panels that’s worth reading

Hi, Bill, My query is actually gluing the flexible solar panel to the floating roof, is it feasible bearing in mind the flimsy floating aluminium roof sheet, and the light weight 50 watt solar panel of just over two and a half pounds. Our electric needs are minimal the 50 watt panel should keep on top of the 85 amp leisure battery, there are only a few single fluorescent tube lights, water pump and blown air heating to contend with. If I can not mount the panel direct to the roof due to the possibility of the roof panel tearing due to flexing I have envisaged a method where I can rig up a sort of 2 bar roof rack supported from the caravan side walls, where I could easily mount a rigid solar panel of about 80 watts. It should not look unsightly as it will run close to the roof. But, there again I do not know!
