Hi, I am away at the moment and the water pump keeps flashing on every few seconds and the battery guage drops when the light goes on and goes back up when off. Its a brand new battery as my last one went flat last time I was away. Anyone know why light should flash please
its because your water is controlled by a pressure system and either you have a leak or the pressure switch needs turning (resetting), the battery will show a discharge due to the pump running to pressurise the pipes. if you look on the inside of the caravan and follow the point where the water comes inside you will see a square box with a screw thing on the top and has an inlet and outlet for the pipework going to it, its that you need to turn to reset things
how long was it you left the battery flat for? normally all it takes is to recharge them with a proper battery charger (not the caravan one)
The above post is absolutely right but to put it in simple terms, the reason why the water pump light illuminates is because there is a pressure drop in the water system. When the water pressure drops, the pump reactivates to repressurise the system which the light is informing that the pump is active. This will continue which is normal but it all depends on how frequent the pump activates as to whether it needs attention. There are a couple of reasons why the pressure drops which could be that the rubber 'O' ring (or 2 rubber rings depending on the pump connector) have slightly perished and become hard and need replacing or that the pressure switch needs resetting. If you have been on a pitch and using battery power only then connecting up to a 240 volt supply (or visa versa) then this could have an influence on the pressure switch. When marge6 (above) mentions a square box with a screw thing on top, they are referring to the pressure switch which is the most likely cause.
Below is a link with a guide to how to set the Whale pressure switch but the one that marg6 (above) and myself have suggested is the in-line pressure switch and not the integral pressure switch.
Thank you both I will have a look in the morning. The battery went dead during our Summer holiday in August and it was the 1st trip in the new to us caravan. I put a battery charger on the battery when I got home but it showed it was a duff battery.
If you have a low voltage battery connected up then that will definitely cause water pump issues.
The water pump will take more power to run than any 12 volt lighting etc. so when the power becomes weak, the pump voltage is not supported which in turn causes the pump to run continuously until it eventually flattens the battery.
ok so when you went away in august where you not on ehu? if you where then this might be highlighting another issue you have of the caravan charger not working as it should have been more than able of keeping up with the demands of the water pump

Will try that Acornis
If you read my first post properly I also suggested that it could be the sealing 'O' rings that need replacing in order to re-pressurise the water system. They are only about £1.00 each to buy which is the cheapest option first to see if cures the problem. However, I always carry new ones as spares anyway as rubber becomes hard over time so eventually the sealing 'O' rings will need changing at some point. You never know when you need them so it can be an instant cure instead of trying to locate a caravan accessory shop when you're away.

Yep, it was your advice to me, I think they were about 50p so bought a couple. Splash out hey.
------------- Just saying
If all is not lost where is it then?
I had a problem last big 2 week holiday in august....Turned out it was the pipe on the pump connector that connects to the caravan that had worked loose and was leaking causing the pump to activate as it was losing pressure

Sorted now people. I put new washers on and also I dont think it was pushed in enough. We live and learn
Glad you got the problem sorted but quite often it's usually the simplest things that create these minor problems.
If your pump housing has the two swivel pins to secure the pump connector in place, it pays to check that one of the swivel spins hasn't broken as that can cause a loose connection and prevent the water system from sealing. It was a common problem on the older Carver type connector that's why Truma replaced it with the Ultraflow trigger connnector which is much better.
