We have a 2006 Ace Jubilee fitted with a NM143 RM power supply unit, the handbook only lists NM143CWS,CF and CWSF models, no mention of an RM

We've just had problems with the battery charging but I managed to locate a blown fuse which hopefully is all that was wrong.

Reading through the manual its says the caravan/car switch has a central position where the charger (if switched on) will simply provide 12v power to lights etc. but ours doesn't and we have always had to use it in the van position to get anything to work.

Is anyone aware of whether or not the unit is faulty or if the NM143 RM does not utilise the central position on the switch.

The central position on the switch is neutral so all 12 volt power is isolated.
However, the battery charger is powered via the 240 volt mains supply (not the 12 volt circuit) so the fuses have no relevance in it's protection. You need to be looking at the RCD where there should be 2 x MCB's that protect several circuits which are the battery charger, fridge (mains function), hot water tank and mains lighting etc. which suggests why the lights only operate via 12 volts merely because the corresponding MCB has tripped the circuit. If you check and reset it it should be okay.

If the central position is definitely "off" then the handbook is wrong, although it wouldn't surprise me given the variations it contains.

The blown fuse was on the 12v side (15amp blade fuse)

Had further problems with it though after posting, couldnt get it past 10volts despite been left on for over 12 hours with no 12v items in use, used a mains powered awning light to illuminate the van, got the water right our of the barrel, didn't even used the fan on the gas fire.

Think the charger has gone belly up

Try Apuljack engineering, they offer to test and repair it or offer a new or refurbished unit. I have used them before, reasonable and very helpful

If Apuljack get at the unit their modifications will meant that they will probably return it or an exchange unit that is far better than the original.

Totally agree with birder99.
Apuljack repaired and upgraded the Nordelectric power supply for my last Motorhome and I seem to remember they gave me a 2 year guarantee. the price was reasonable and as I was going to Europe in 2 weeks time I paid a small premium for express delivery.

Thank you all for the replies.

Got the van hooked up to power at home and battery fully charged and back in the van, took another look at the fuse I'd replaced and in the better light noticed the contacts were a little tarnished so tried another, Geronimo!!! it worked. even the tarnished fuse worked again after I'd taken a glass fibre pencil to it.

I will be keeping Apuljacks details to hand though as there could still be something amiss with the unit as it now operates lights etc. with the three way switch in the centre position as per the handbook, wondering if something odd happened to it to rectify a fault but blew the fuse at the same time???
