We have had our 2011 Swift Charisma a year now and is still under warranty by the dealer. So we had to have it serviced by the dealer to keep the warranty and surprise it has shown 27% damp in the off side corner which is going to be over £1k to fix (new front corner and everything that goes with it!) The warranty covers £500 so we have to find the rest. So the offside is where the water pump and water tank and heater is. Could this be a coincidence or just bad luck? 12 hours labour does that sound right?

Whereabouts, inside, underneath? Could be getting in from the grab handles maybe, do a bit of searching and investigating before committing your £500, could be a real easy fix if no structural damage.

what dealer that give a warranty when you buy, then insists on a price limit? I would be talking to trading standards if I was you,

Not noticed any structural damage and I think the £500 limit was because of the age of the van. Apparently £480 Labour and the rest in materials plus vat. We are a bit stuck really as maybe they are charging over the top but if we took it somewhere else we would probably have to fork out £500 anyway. Any recommendations for a good calibrated damp meter?

not the point tho, if you sell anything with a warranty on it then the whole point is that your covering the cost of listed repairs, you don't put any limits on the value of the work your prepared to do, esp for damp, as that can become very expensive due to being hidden. so your either cover the cost fully or you don't, what you don't do is get the customer to pay for anything over £500 which is basically saying if it takes longer than a day to sort it then your getting charged, which any decent damp repair will take longer than a day to complete. who did you buy the caravan from and how long have you had it?

oh I would suggest that you get it independently damp tested, get a mobile guy to come and see the caravan and see what he finds, don't mention about the dealer saying it has damp in it

Personally given the weather at the moment I wouldn’t worry a huge amount about anything below 30%. I’d either ask their dealer who serviced it to recheck it in 3 months or get a second opinion from a mobile engineer or another service centre. They might charge you for a damp test though.

Marg6 didn't really want to mention names but it is a large dealership and we have had the van a year, hence the service and just before the warranty ran out. I get what you are saying but I would rather get it sorted than leave it to get worse if there is a leak. I will check the small print again and see if I can find any loopholes.

I think you should be talking to trading standards aswell. ok no name but can you give their location? wouldn't be the one in Glossop by any chance would it?
