Hello, I'm new to caravans and am currently looking at a 2015 Bailey 4 berth. It's immaculate, but the seller has admitted that at the last service for the warranty they found a bit of damp under the front end - the seller hadn't been aware of it. This has been repaired, and there is still 15 months left on the warranty. There is a paper trail for all this.
My question is, should this put me off looking at this van? Everything I've read suggests to steer clear of anything with damp, but this has been repaired under warranty so should it be OK?
depends on how long ago it was treated, and if there are any signs of it failing? and then is the warrenty able to be moved to you free of charge, personally I would leave it, plenty of other caravans around that aren't damp, unless of course the price really reflects what could end up costing thousands to be repaired again
I think it depends upon what the cause of the damp was. For instance, if it was a seal on a locker door leaking and has been repaired it is probably as good as new.
However, even if it is nothing to worry about, it may put a potential buyer off it when you come to sell in a few years time.
if the original issue has been resolved properly with a guaranteed repair, whats the issue? get them to pay for a 'test' if it all passes and the warranty can be transferred, there is no damp and the warranty will continue to ensure there wont be. have you tried enquiring if the warranty can be transferred AND extended?
it could alos work in your favour for a reasonable reduction in price ....
Buying it private you have no comeback if faults arise. You say it has 15 months warranty left on it, but that only applies if you pay to register it with Bailey. Also if registered you may still find it a problem to claim under warranty as majority of dealers will not handle it unless you actually purchased it from them.

£35 to transfer the warranty with Bailey (though they only accept cheque or postal order !!) plus we have just paid for a warranty extension (water ingress/damp) for years 7,8,9 and 10 for around £250 with a company recommended by Bailey
'Under the front end' is rather vague. You need to establish what has been repaired and whether there is still damp as checked with a meter.
I would not necessarily write it off, just do the research to be sure what you are taking on.
As a newbie I would recommend having any prospective purchase inspected.

Thoughts?
A few years ago I bought a caravan with paperwork which said a leak had been repaired under the front seats. I didn't at that time have a damp meter but I physically checked and there were signs that damp had been present but it was now dry. It turned out to be a lovely warm and dry caravan which I sold again over a year later for what I had paid for it.
However, it was a £300 caravan not a £3000 one so I would certainly in your case have the caravan checked over properly for damp and make sure the guarantee is transferable.
In my experience, and I looked at lots of caravans before buying one, very few are completely damp free despite what the owners may tell you. In your case it seems the owner has been up front and honest so that goes in his favour and you may have found yourself a lovely caravan...but check it thoroughly throughout before parting with your cash because a seriously damp caravan will be an expensive millstone around your neck.
