Hi,I have charged up my van battery which was down to 8volts in storage and it was registering 13.14 on my multimeter when fully charged,4 days later it is showing 13.6,is this normal discharge when not in use, thanks in advance ,Keith
According to your figures Keith the voltage has increased, have you got the figures the right way around? I would check it again in a few days and see if it has dropped again. If the battery had dropped to 8 volts I expect the battery may have had it. How old is the battery?
I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. However keep a close eye on it because as Rob says if the battery got down to 8 volts that is in effect totally flat, and if a battery is left flat for long it will rapidly deteriorate. You may be lucky and have got away with it, just keep checking it every so often.
Don't forget too that you've probably read a "surface charge", which is common until this either dissipates or the battery has a slight load. A 100% charged battery is circa 12.6v
Hi to those who gave me info,I have just checked the reading accross the terminals and they were 12.99,I have had my ring tyre pump connected for 3 mins and the reading was 12.71 so it looks like the battery will power the mover which was my greatest worry, thank you all,Keith.
One more thing if anyone can help.I would like to know how old the battery is but slightly confused,on top of the battery there are two rows of numbers, the top row shows 12 13 14 15 16 and the bottom row shows 1 to 12 with the number 7 marked with a dot,I assume that this indicates the 7th month but what about the year, any thoughts please,Keith
Keith, yes you're right, the 1 to 12 signifies the month and the 12 onwards, illustrates the year. As well as the mark you've found against the month, there should be similar against the year too, to illustrate the month and year of manufacture.
Take another close look at the year digits, maybe the mark isn't as obvious as you'd expect.
