Hi I have just been quoted nearly £600 to have my caravan underneath insulated... is this something that can fairly easily be done by myself or do I need to pay to have it done professionally many thanks

Are you referring to a static or tourer?
If it's a tourer then the bottom of the caravan is already insulated by polystyrene foam sandwiched between two sheets of half inch timber plywood.

How old the caravan in question?

You may well be able to do it yourself at a MUCH lower cost.

Insulation for underfloor of Static Carvans

To finish off, staple thick PVC sheeting to the wooden joists.

Sorry for the delay Debbie.
                           Hopefully by now you have had a look underneath and have seen the structure.

If so, you will have measured the widths and lengths you need to insert the insulation to.

And you will have worked out how to work around the supports and plumbing etc.

It also helps if you put cladding around the van as this stops /reduces wind blowing under the van. Just rememember to leave a hinged access point to enable you to gain access points to the drain down taps.

its always the draughts that cause the greater heat loss but when you insulate underneath do not cover up the low level vents. if you can work a stanley knife, tape measure and a stapler then you can install your own underneath insulation, so long as you are active enough to crawl around underneath

putting a 'skirt' around as has been suggested may be more energy efficient than insulating underneath.
