Hi. I bought my first caravan and learning about it currently. It’s a bailey pageant 2006..
I think it’s in good shape.
I opened the hook up / leisure battery hatch today . It’s been raining a bit. The battery is in a tray and the tray is full of water ie about inch and half up the battery,,,I presume this is meant to be dry... is it a common problem ?

its a common problem in that I hope you had the caravan checked over for damp before you paid for it? did you buy from a dealer? get them to fix asap and get an independent damp test done on the caravan

That sounds odd to me. Is the battery compartment floor wet ?
Something strange if the water is only in the battery tray.

Well in closer inspection the hatch doesn’t close tight. No doubt there is water getting in there but, if water gets in here it should run along the door seal and drop down .. dunno how it’s getting to fill the tray

Obviously If the tray was not there there would be not water there, yes a wet bottom surface but the full tray of water has me asking questions?

If it's like mine with the largest battery that'll fit, then the cables are forced against the closed door, they may be 'channelling' leaking water onto the battery and thus into the tray. Any water ingress into the general compartment should freely drain out of the EHU cable entry notch and/or poor fitting lower part of seal.

The door should seal tight enough not to allow water to enter the compartment. Check that the battery/cables are not pushing the closed door away from the seal. If the door has been forced away from the seal for some time, it may now have become permanently distorted and will never seal. If it all looks physically OK, try cleaning seal and door contact area thoroughly, then coat with a water repellent silicone type compound (but check it is compatible with plastics!)
