How do you sterilise the water pipe that connects from the tap to the butt.? I use Milton in the butt to sterilise the van pipes.
Would I have to put the hose in the bath and try to run some tablets through? help please.
you are better off using puriclen , but if you thought about it when you do the water butt and then the pipes into the caravan you would have realised that the Milton is getting pulled up from the water butt, it contains the water, until you unplug it
I take it that you mean the filling hose from the site tap to you water container/ tank / butt. All I do is just flush it through well each time I use it. It’s not the same as a container that has standing water in it. In 40 plus years never had a problem.
I rarely use a flexible hose pipe for filling the water barrel. I use a length of 32mm. domestic hard plastic waste pipe with attachable velcro at one end that goes over the water tap and the other end directly over the water barrel at an angle so the fresh water flows down through the pipe and prevents it dangling in the barrel. Once a year I clean the internal pipe surface with a standard bottle brush and a spray of anti-bacterial surface cleaner then wash out very thoroughly afterwards then stand on it's end to drain completely dry. The pipe therefore doesn't need any sterilisation as such because there is no bacteria build up like there is with stored water in barrels, butts or containers etc. You can also have various lengths of waste pipe if needed to suit the various heights between the water tap and the water barrel as they are all vary on each campsite.
Uncoil and lay flat on the ground and tie both ends to a suitable fence a few feet off the ground. Fill one end with your favorite cleaning solution until it comes out of the other end. level the hose ends and Leave for an hour and connect to tap and drain into grid.
