I can't go look at my van as it's inaccessible under lockdown rules, but working from memory and a few Googled photos, is it not possibly to space the lower locker edge away from van wall to ensure that the lid doesn't foul the van wall when opened.
The hinges are 'inboard' from the lowest edge, so the extremity of the lid will pivot towards the van wall when opened, in that situation, an open lid may risk contacting wall, both straining hinge and jacking locker away from wall with risk of breaking silicone sealant bond to locker/wall.
From memory, my locker is just above the draft skirt channel that may interfere/be damaged by fully open locker lid (but someone has fitted a makeshift stay made from a large cable tie on mine, so it only opens to horizontal position!).
As a former head of design, believe me, no manufacturer goes to the trouble and expense of fitting parts unnecessarily, if it's there, it's for a good reason, I'd replace or substitute a similar part during your refitting of locker.
